Steil co-sponsors legislation to protect cops from fentanyl

Congressman Bryan Steil of Janesville cosponsors legislation aimed at keeping law enforcement safe from Fentanyl exposure.
The Republican introduced the Providing Officers With Electronic Resources or POWER Act Thursday which was National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.
Steil says he has met with every county sheriff from Wisconsin’s First Congressional District and participated in ride alongs with the Janesville and Racine Police Departments.
The POWER Act establishes a new grant program within the Department of Justice to help law enforcement agencies secure high-tech, portable chemical screening devices that assist officers in the detection of fentanyl and other dangerous drugs. With enhanced technology, law enforcement can more efficiently identify substances while keeping them safe, and better deploy resources to combat illegal substances from entering communities.
