Beloit police are asking witnesses in the recent shooting death of 26-year-old Chelsey Payton to come forward. Director of Strategic Communications Sarah Millard says a large number of people were at the party near Grand and Park Avenues a week ago Saturday when the shooting took place. Police are circulating Payton’s photo on social media in the hopes someone saw the suspect. Millard says detectives are pursuing a number of leads, but this is considered a complicated case because of the size of the crowd. Payton was the mother of five children. 32-year-old Jeffery D. Scott was also wounded in the incident.
