A 66-year-old Janesville man has been sentenced for theft of social security benefits.

The Wisconsin District Attorney’s office has announced that David Beyer was sentenced Tuesday to three years of probation for theft of social security retirement benefits.

The Social Security Administration Office received an anonymous tip in December of 2021 that Beyer continued to receive social security checks from his mother-in-law’s retirement benefits even though she had passed away in 2016.

Beyer did not report the death and continued to collect benefits from July 2016 to January 2022 to the tune of a total amount of more than $62,000.

Beyer pleaded guilty to the charge in April of this year.
