Authorities pull injured man out of exploded house near Elkhorn

Walworth County authorities say they pulled a man from the basement of a house officials say exploded Tuesday afternoon outside Elkhorn.

Walworth County Sheriff’s Authorities say they responded to a call of an explosion and fire about 2:18 p.m. Tuesday at Kulow Road. That’s in the town of the Lafayette, between the cities of Elkhorn and East Troy.

Officials say the explosion caused the ground to shake for miles around, but authorities haven’t said what might have caused the house to blow.

Authorities say the house was burning when they arrived. Walworth County Sheriff’s Officers and Elkhorn Fire Department crews spent a hours searching before they found a man severely injured in the basement of the wrecked house.

Police say family has indicated the man is the only person authorities found in or around the home. The man was flown by helicopter to a hospital. His condition is not known.

Elkhorn Fire Department officials, the sheriff’s office and the state Fire Marshal’s Office continue to investigate.
