Beloit Riverfest "IDOL" contest applications now available.

Applications for the 2008 Riverfest Singing Idol competition are now available through May 12, 2008, at twenty participating state line Associated Bank locations as well as Suds O’Hanahan’s in Beloit.

Please note that along with their filled-out application contestants must sign a release form and also submit a $20 entry fee. All applicants will receive one general admission ticket to Riverfest 2008 valued at $13.

The top three finalists will compete live before The Beach Boys concert on the Riverfest Main Stage on Sunday, July 13th. The first place winner receives $2,008 and, new this year, an album development recording contract. Also different from last year’s event, second and third place winners will receive consolation prizes and an opportunity to record a single.

JSTAC to host tree planting seminar

JSTAC to demonstrate how to choose and plant a tree With tree planting season upon us the Janesville Shade Tree Advisory Committee will host a seminar on Tuesday, May 13 on Selecting and Planting a Tree for Your Yard. The seminar will be held at 6:30 pm in the warming house at Traxler Park. JSTAC volunteers will demonstrate how to select the right tree for your location and what to look for when choosing a tree. You’ll learn how to assess health and form, how to choose between potted, balled and burlapped and bare root stock. On site planting demonstrations will show the proper way to plant a tree. The seminar is free and open to the public. JSTAC encourages Janesville residents to attend committee meetings which are held on the last Wednesday of each month at 4 pm at the DNR Service Center, 2514 Morse Street. Register for Taylor Falligant Golf Benefit

at Edgerton Towne Country Club , Time TBA ($20 - $35)

Advance registration is now open for the Taylor Marie Falligant Memorial Scholarship Golf outing at the Edgerton Towne Country Club on Saturday, May 31st. The 4-person scramble format golf event tees off for 9 holes at 1pm. Cost is $35/per person including cart and dinner. A discount rate of $20 is available for members of the country club. There will also be a $10,000 hole in one contest, Silent auction and other events.
