U.S. Senator Russ Feingold says CAFE fuel efficiency standards aren't perfect, but they are an improvement over a previous version of the bill. He tells WCLO's Stan Milam that he and Congressman Paul Ryan agree that the 35 mile per gallon overall average is a chance so the Janesville plant's production not be unfairly affected by the new standards. Feingold says he was instrumental in getting the standards changed because it was the bottom line for Janesville, Forward Janesville, the UAW and General Motors.

Feingold also hopes to change the "No Child Left Behind" law to better help local schools. He says it has to be reauthorized this year, which gives lawmakers some leverage. Feingold wants schools to have other opportunities to measure student achievement other than tests.
