Janesville company withdraws membership from powerful lobby group

A powerful Wisconsin lobbying group has lost a board member after a major Madison-area company said it would avoid working with those who support the group.

Verona-based medical records company Epic Systems objected to Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce's involvement in the recent state Supreme Court race. It has threatened to pull its business from local vendors that support the business lobby.

That appears to have prompted David Cullen to resign from the WMC board effective June 9. He is CEO of Janesville-based J.P. Cullen & Sons. That company has a contract for an expansion project at Epic.

Cullen says his company also will drop its WMC membership.

A Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce vice president says the nearly 4,000-member group is not swayed and will still be involved in political campaigns.
