Mental illness, would get the same health insurance coverage as physical illness, under legislation supported by a local congresswoman.

Democrat Tammy Baldwin tells WCLO's Stan Milam show the Mental Health and Addiction Equity Act would save billions of dollars every year. She says the money could be saved by reducing absenteeism and the other fallout from untreated mental health and addiction problems. Baldwin says mental health illness can be every bit as life threatening as physical illness, and both should be covered by insurance.

Different bills have passed the House and Senate, and are now headed to a conference committee.
