DNA tests confirm Milton cougar is wild
Podcast Episode
WCLO's Beth Wheelock reports on the confirmation that the Milton cougar is wild.
It appears the Department of Natural Resources will allow the Milton cougar to peacefully coexist with its human neighbors.
Wildlife Supervisor Doug Fendry says DNA tests confirm it's a wild cougar. If it had escaped from captivity, the DNR would try to recapture it. The cougar is most similar to South Dakota cougars. Fendry says the cougar won't change its habits as spring arrives and its main diet is whitetail deer. Fendry says it's a coincidence that the cougar has been spotted in the Chronic Wasting Disease Eradication Zone, although some people might speculate the DNR released it there to control the deer population.
