WCLO's Steve Benton reports the posting of delinquent personal property taxes

— Rock County Treasurer Vicki Brown has posted a list of companies doing business in Rock County that are delinquent with their personal property taxes.

She says what's disturbing is the amount of unpaid personal taxes is rising. Last year the amount was $68,000 while this year it's up to $80,000.

Brown says municipalities can try to recover the lost money in civil court, but that can take up to six years. The city of Beloit has found a way around that by denying a license or permit to businesses with unpaid personal property taxes.

The personal property tax includes machinery, equipment, furniture, fixtures, and inventory used in the course of operating a business.
