Consultants have new input from Janesville's plan commission about how and where the city should expand in the next 20 years.

Community Development Director Brad Cantrell says the future land use map shows more land area for residential development than the city's projections show is needed. During a workshop Thursday night, the plan commission pared down that amount by about four square miles. Consultants also recommend Janesville hold off on developing the Avalon Road near the Interstate. If the city wants to develop that area in the future, it would be able to attract high-end office developments.

The plan commission did not make a final decision about land use within the city. The public will be able to comment on the Comprehensive Plan later this summer.
