WCLO's Steve Benton reports on Rock County representation at the annual Wisconsin Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony

— The 18th Annual Wisconsin Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony is scheduled for noon Friday at the state capitol.

Rock County Sheriff's Department Lt. Russ Steeber will play a prominent role in the event. He'll deliver opening remarks and make several introductions, including those for Governor Jim Doyle and Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen.

Steeber says Rock County will send their honor guard to the ceremony and members from other law enforcement agencies in the county, including Janesville and Beloit, are expected to attend.

Three names will be added to the memorial. Police officer Jackie Ryden of the Prescott Police Department died while directing traffic at a house fire in 2006, Deputy Frank Fabiano, Jr. of the Kenosha County Sheriff's Office was killed during a traffic stop in 2007, and Deputy Steven Hahn of the Chippewa County Sheriff's Office was killed while directing traffic at an accident scene in January, 2008.

Since 1844, over 245 law enforcement officers have been killed in the line of duty in Wisconsin.
