WCLO's Steve Benton reports Beloit given the green light for Gateway road extension

— Beloit City Manager, Larry Arft, says they're ready to proceed with the extension of the Gateway Project.

Arft says the road extension was given the green light after the city made some changes requested by the Department of Natural Resources.

He says the proposed road passes through some wetlands and other environmentally sensitive areas along Springbrook Creek. The new extension was realigned and will open up more of the Gateway Project for industrial development. It also gives the area an access point to I-43 on the North. There is already access to I-90 to the South.

Arft says planners can finish the design work now, and we can expect infrastructure improvements in 2010, if all goes smoothly.
