The Rock County Environmental Network is calling attention to what they consider the short sighted nature of Janesville's comprehensive plan.

Spokeswoman Julie Backenmiller tells WCLO's Stan Milam Show, the problem isn't growth, but urban sprawl. She says the city intends to use thousands of acres of prime farm land for residential and business development. Bakenmiller suggests a moratorium on new building, unless it's within the city limits.

She says this would force revitalization of neighborhoods because of the growing value of residential land.

They are a new group formed of people who value the environment and seek to reduce anthropomorphic (human impact) in our area. Julie Backenkeller is the lead person, and there are several members. This is not the only eco-group in the region. There are several ie..UW Rock County-GREEN Scene, Welty Environmental Center, Rock County Conservationists to name a few.
It's time the city define a permanent border and build only within that border. Farmland is dissappearing at an alarming rate across the nation. Our soil is some of the best in the entire WORLD. This is not a joke, it's a fact. People need to realize that the economy is directly related to the environment and not independent of it. We need to lead by example.
Vote for change in November.
