Economy produces more overcrowding at Rock Co Humane Society

A grant contest could help the Rock County Humane Society reduce overcrowding.

In a manner of speaking, the Humane Society is a no-kill shelter for dogs. That means any animal that's healthy, treatable and pet quality is saved. Executive Director Chris Konetski says the same is not true for cats based on the amount of cats at the shelter. She says last month, more than 300 cats came in to the shelter. Between the cats and dogs, the shelter can only hold about 250 animals. Foster families help relieve the burden.

The shelter is participating in an online grant challenge, where shelters with the most votes earn a $1,000, $10,000 or $25,000 grant.

Suggest removal

Rock County should have a free spay/neuter program for feral cats...similar to what Dane County has. Would help with over population.
