Rock County gardeners should be busy this weekend
Podcast Episode
WCLO's Beth Wheelock reports on the plants that can be put in the ground this weekend.
Memorial Day weekend is the weekend to plant summer garden crops like tomatoes, peppers and eggplants.
Mike Maddox, Rock County's UW-Extension Horticulture Educator, says it's also an opportune time to fertilize lawns. He says fertilizing lawns now should provide enough nitrogen to keep turf grass green through the Fourth of July. If it's a bit rainy, fertilizer works well if applied before a rain. Maddox warns that the same isn't true for weed killer.

Apply your fertilizer before it rains? This goes against everything I have ever been taught about nitrogen fertlizer.
