Rock County 4-H Fair entertainment announced
Country music artists will headline the entertainment at this summer's Rock County 4-H Fair.
Highlights include Jamey Johnson, Jake Owen, and Stell Magnolia. Fair officials say they've been very lucky with attracting top county talent. New this year will be a PRCA sanctioned professional rodeo. As usual the fair will open with the 4-H Fair Royalty Coronation.
The fair runs July 27th through August 1st.

I'd gladly pay more to attend for better acts. It'll be interesting to see how attendance is this year. I'm betting very low. Sad. Put new/younger people in charge.

hey "frogger"....yes...Ive been to a rodeo...and found it extremely dull. So a fake cowboy rides around and abuses a calf..a bull...etc...by wrestling it to the ground...and thats...exciting? Like watching paint dry, only animals are hurt in the process. What a bargain.

It's just sad that the entertainment is so one sided. Its almost like one year all the good mainstage acts just stopped. I can remember years ago going to the fair and the grandstand was absolutely packed with people. I truly believe the board needs to re-evaluate this in the future. There's no reason why they can't appeal to all age groups and different types of music; none whatsoever. Janesville is not THAT small.

"Stell Magnolia"
Why can't you ever proofread. This is two mistakes in the last two days w/o even trying to look for them.

tbremel, ...spoken like a true country radio kind of employee. Sadly, the comment about going elsewhere is EXACTLY what more people are doing as far as county fairs are concerned. Other fairs that represent counties have opened their minds to a diverse range of local, regional, and national entertainment. IS this the Rock County 4H fair or is it the WCLO/WJVL(Bliss Communication) 4H fair?
This lineup is just sad.

grandprixgill- Have you even seen a rodeo so you have a right to complain about one???
Going to the Rodeo is fun!
It is about time they bring back so of the extra activities. They have not done a tractor pull since I was little.
If you don't like the performers don't go. If you want to see ROCK. GO to a concert of you choice anytime you want to go!!

Question: What part of "Rock County 4-H Fair" do we not understand?
It's not "Rock County Concert Week" or "Rock County Mega Star Week". Its a FAIR. A 4-H Fair.
Yes, part of the appeal of the fair has always been some form of entertainment. And for a number of years, having well-known performers was a viable part of the entertainment mix of the fair. Due to the incredible inflation in the cost of those types of acts... its becoming impossible to cover the costs with a meager $8 admission.
How people expect the fair board to book artists that would command $30-$50 in any other venue, and provide them for $8 in addition to all the other costs of running the fair baffles me.
The fact is there is GREAT family entertainment. Most people just choose to ignore it.
There is the 4-H and FFA Royalty coronation on Tuesday. These kids are the heartbeat of the fair and the future of our community. Yet the grandstands are never more than half full.
The Star Contest on Wednesday is lots of fun, with your local neighbors putting on a great show. Have you ever attended?
Then there are concert acts - and yes, they are legitimate acts who have music on the radio (even though they may not have superstar status).. and a new Rodeo this year on Sunday which should be a blast.
Plus there is all kinds of "side stage" entertainment throughout the day.
Again... all for eight dollars!!
So let us consider ALL the fair really is:
-- A gathering of community for fun and activities.
-- The largest display of youth projects and activities in one place.
-- Six days of FREE entertainment from the grandstand to the food fair stage and more.
-- A Carnival that is nearly unequaled at any other fair short of the state fair.
-- Dozens of vendors with interesting products who will take the time to chat with you about the products, benefits and innovations.
-- Hundreds of animals, all expertly cared for by our future farmers.
-- And yes, all those favorite fair time foods we probably shouldn't love but we treat ourselves to.
All that. All in one place. For less than the price of a movie ticket to get in the gate.
So please, before you go bashing the entertainment lineup -- give some credit to the folks who work tirelessly to put the fair together. And then, plan to come and support the true stars of the fair -- our 4-H and FFA kids.

I haven't been to the fair in years and looks like I won't be going again this year. Makes you wonder how much longer it will last.

This is why nobody ever talks about the Rock County fair in any glowing terms. How does the Jefferson County fair and Walworth county fair always seem to book at least one good rock or pop act and all we ever get is one or two good country acts and then the rejects from Hee-Haw's 3rd season. Pathetic
