WCLO's Stan Stricker reports on disposition of 14-year-old girl's case
A 14-year-old Edgerton girl admits her involvement in a 13-year-old boy's death.
Alexander Aiken's mother gave a somtimes sobbing, often angry, and thoroughly mournful statement during the juvenile court disposition Thursday of Ashlee Brown. Her young son's friend was accused of supplying the prescription drugs which led to his death. She admonished the 8th grade girl, saying there's no sentence that could take away from her young life and family, what she'd taken away from others. Following a plea agreement, Rock County Judge Alan Bates ordered Brown be placed in the state's Serious Juvenile Offender program. She'll be in state custody for five years, with up to three years in a maximum security facility for juveniles.
Both the prosecution and defense say Brown will be able to receive better help to deal with her problems in the juvenile system, compared with the adult system.

No one seems to be seeing the big picture, or asking the right questions here. Where did she get the pills? Teens have access to so many things these days that should be kept somewhere safe so these kinds of things don't happen. Parents also need to be paying more attention to their kids. I feel for both families here, but you should know what your kids are up to.

I think this is the perfect sentence. She will get whatever counseling she needs, she is off the streets and mother doesn't have to deal with her now.
Look folks, she was on a downhill spiral a year ago! There comes a point when these kids MUST BE confined. The destructive behavior she has continually displayed is out of control. She has NO respect for her mother, her school, her friends nor authority. There ISN'T any other logical choice. (Short of adult prison)
If she would have gotten the "slap on her wrist" that I'm sure she was hoping for, it just would have solidified in her mind, that she can get away with anything. This time though, she will not be getting away with murder. Regardless how you slice it, I don't want her on the streets to entice any more kids.

napalm- you keep forgetting she is doing something wrong no matter if that child died or NOT.
Would this still be okay if the kid didn't die? NO. If he didn't die this would STILL be going on. It is sad the boy died but he could be saving so many others since she will be punished for dealing illegal drugs now.

I agree parents need to take responsibility for their childrens actions and this boy who tookthe pills from a friend of the girl wasnt forced to take them. She was wrong in doing what she did but so was the boy who gave them to the boy who died and the boy who took them.I am sorry for their loss as well but take some responsibility for what your son did as well.

Okay, I understand punishment, but maximum security facilty for giving some pills to someone who by their own will, took those pills??? Am I missing something here? Did this girl threaten the boy into taking them, did she twist his arm? I am sorry for the families loss, but the boys family should understand they have to take some responsibilty for their son's actions. Unless a gun was held to his head to take the pills, he should have been smart enough to know there are consequences to every action and he had to know he was taking a risk by swallowing the pills. I am gald the girl is not in an adult facility and I pray she gets help and counseling. Kids only know what they are taught and parents need to take some responsibilty and make sure they are educating their child on the dangers of any meds illegal or legal. I also know any supplier can be punished but really, is a bartender then punishable for serving drinks to someone who commits an OWI for the 9th time and kills someone. We punish a child for an action like this yet the adults commit just as serious of a crime and they get a slap on the wrist. Our judiical system is pretty screwed up!
