I think l the legalization of weed may be light years away. I think a viable alternative would be to de-criminalize it like others states. That would make possesion of a less than a certain amount, a misdemeanor offence as opposed to a felony.
Medicinal use and recreational use should be legal, in my opinion. It helps quell many painful symptoms of several really painful conditions: cancer, AIDS, glaucoma, diabetes, fibromyalgia, and the list goes on. My best friend died from AIDS in 1998, and she was in constant pain for many years. The prescribed meds did nothing but make her more sick. She smoked pot to ease the pain and give her an appetite; things she struggled with for a long time. As for recreational use, I see it as being much less harmful than other drugs that are legal i.e. cigarettes and alcohol. I believe pot should be reclassified and separated from hemp, it's non-narcotic cousin, so that hemp can be farmed for profit (think health care products, clothing, food, and fuel). If the government legalized pot, imagine the taxes that could be generated and put to good use for the entire country.
