The city wants to use the exiting site for a fire station. Hockey supporters want a new facility. The council wants to limit future expenditures and get out of the ice arena business.
Solution: Give the new facility supporters full control of the existing rink for a period of 2 years. They seem to think they can turn a profit so let them. Two year should be plenty of time to raise a couple of million for a new facility. After all, they keep telling us how good of an investment an ice arena is. Of course they will have to handle all maintenance costs during the two years. After the two years is up, the city can tear down the rink and put up their fire station. The Hockey lovers can take all the money they have raised and build a new facility anywhere they want. Taxpayers dont have to fund a new facility and they stop paying yearly maintenance on the old facility. The city gets is new fire station and saves the cost of buying land. Hockey supporters get a chance to raise money and build a new facility anywhere they want.
This seems to be a winning solution. Why would we not try something like this rather than simply GIVING the hockey supporters $2M ???
Seems to me, the group should pay Janesville for the building, then Janesville could wash their hands of it. Since when do you pay someone to take something off your hands??? Unless there is something I don't understand.
Hank....There is ONE phone number that indicates that it is perhaps not in janesville....did you ever THINK that some may be cell phone numbers????? Perhaps the 868 # is a business or work phone number or have a Janesville address and a Milton phone number..it happens....you don't know the facts and you are so out of touch...you should stick to the truth..it will set you free...we would all appreciate that!!!!!!
I don't think we should give them any of our money for the ice arena. Let them fund it themselves. Wash our hands of this whole fiasco WITHOUT any taxpayer's money involved.
Hank still exaggerating numbers to benefit his opinions. Hank has not learned his lesson yet on running the correct information to validate his opinion. Thanks Hank for the misleading information you post to these blogs. It helps many of us see the untruths you tell.
Is this the ONLY way to get out of owning the ice rink? I think I may have to change my position about giving them money to get rid of it once and for all. There has to be a better way to get the COJ out of the ice arena business...

Shame on those for even thinking about giving $2 million of taxpayer money away!
