Presenting... YOUR Award for news!

By Tim Bremel ( Contact )   April 7, 2008

"...and the winner for the best medium market radio news operation is.."

I was hopeful, but not expectant. There are at least a half a dozen great news organizations throughout the state of Wisconsin in medium market radio news. So when the the presenter finished with "WCLO-AM in Janesville", I was immediately honored and humbled.

In fact, WCLO received several WBA medium market radio awards on Saturday, including: Best News Operation Best News Writing Best Special Interest 2nd Place News Feature 2nd Place Use of Audio in News 2nd Place On-Scene Reporting 3rd Place sports play-by-play and 2nd Place Convergence coverage for our joint efforts between WCLO, Janesville Gazette and our websites.

It is gratifying to know that our broadcast peers (from other state associations who judge the entries) recognize our commitment to excellence in local news programming.

It is also humbling to be singled out from among such great competition throughout the state.

We do work hard to make WCLO a good local radio station. We do it for one primary reason: YOU. You've told us that you are still interested in local news and local talk programming. You participate in the process by calling in to Stan Milam's show and providing news tips to our news team. You, our listeners, are the base on which WCLO's programming is built. So, with much appreciation, allow me to accept those awards on behalf of you, our listeners, without whom we'd be just another "jukebox".

It should also be noted that our sister station, WBKV-AM in West Bend, received the small market "best news operation" radio award. That means that, short of the "major market" category, where we have no stations - Bliss Communication's owned properties have been recognized as the best radio news operations in the state. It is an honor to be in the employ of an organization that shows such a commitment to local news and information in both it's print and radio (and website) efforts.

Thanks to you all for giving us the opportunity to serve you and giving me the pleasure of a very memorable evening at the awards ceremony.
