COVID-19 is officially present in Rock County.
The Rock County Public Health Department announced the first confirmed positive coronavirus disease case in the county Thursday evening.
When the department issued its daily COVID-19 update just after 4:00 p.m. Thursday, health officials reported no positive tests, but the county issued a second update just after 6:00 p.m. with the confirmed positive case.
A news release said the patient is 57 years old and in isolation at home.
“We are in contact with this individual and will directly notify close contacts with additional guidance,” Health officer Marie-Noel Sandoval said. “We continue
collaborating with our local, state, and federal partners to minimize the impact on our community. Please do your part by following suspensions and recommendations.”
The individual is not known to have made any direct contact with a positive case, but the county said the person recently traveled to attend an event in Chicago.
Health officials held a teleconference Thursday night to answer questions about the situation.
